Puppies Behind Bars Program

Lifeline Prison Ministry provides the Puppies Behind Bars program in several of the Michigan Correctional Facilities. Golden Retriever and Labrador Retrievers are given to preselected inmates. The puppies live with the Inmates in their cells for two (2) years. Monday-Friday a professional trainer trains the inmates to train their puppies, On Saturday and Sunday the puppies are then taken to adoptive Weekend families where the puppies learn about normal life, on Monday the puppies return with the Professional Trainer to the prison to continue their training. At the end of two (2) years the puppies are tested on fifty (50) commands, if they pass every test.... Then the puppies are given to returning disabled veterans from lraq and Afghanistan and used as service dogs
